Plagiarism Is Theft

At IU Kokomo, you commit plagiarism when you:

  • Summarize or paraphrase the words or ideas of another person without citing them
  • Use facts, statistics, or other factual information without citing them
  • Buy or use a term paper written by someone else
  • Cut and paste content from the Web, an e-book, or an electronic article and insert it into your paper without citing the source

Plagiarism is a serious offense. If you are caught, you may earn a failing grade on your paper, or worse, you could fail the class.

The rest of this tutorial will help you learn when it is necessary to cite information and help you learn how to best document your work.
