Postbaccalaureate Study in Education at Indiana University Kokomo

Maybe you’ve always thought about becoming a teacher in the back of your mind. Maybe you went a different path and worked in the private sector of some kind but always thought it might be nice to come back and share what you’ve learned with the next generation. If you have already completed a bachelor’s degree but are interested in teaching at the elementary or secondary level, we offer postbaccalaureate study in education at Indiana University Kokomo.

Change to Education Program

The Change to Education, or C2E, Program is designed for hopeful educators who already possess a bachelor’s degree. C2E is a 24-credit-hour program leading to teaching licensure for grades 5-12 in math, science, social studies, fine arts, or English/language arts. To qualify for this program, you must have:

  • An earned bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade point average of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Passing scores on the Indiana Core Academic Skills Assessment (CASA) exams or an earned master’s degree or scores meeting the program’s required scores on the ACT, SAT, or GRE
  • An expanded criminal background check
Upon completion of this program, you will have the knowledge and skills necessary to become an effective educator including knowledge of curriculum, instructional practices, assessment, and professionalism in your chosen content area. Please note you will be required to take an exam for your teaching major and for secondary education prior to becoming licensed.
Postbaccalaureate Certificate for Elementary Education
The postbaccalaureate certificate is designed for those who already possess an earned bachelor’s degree but are looking to become a licensed educator for the K-6 setting. This certificate leads to licensure as an elementary generalist. Upon completion of this program, you’ll have the solid foundation you need to begin making a difference in your own classrooms. To qualify for this program, you must have:
  • An earned bachelor’s degree with a minimum grade point average of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Passing scores on the Indiana Core Academic Skills Assessment (CASA) exams or an earned master’s degree or scores meeting the program’s required scores on the ACT, SAT, or GRE
  • An expanded criminal background check
